Museum of Cheap Shit
The Museum of Cheap Shit was created during a workshop with visiting designers from the design firm Toormix, in Barcelona, Spain. The workshop focused on design that translates across two or more languages. We were instructed to come up with a concept museum that could be found in Barcelona and in New York City.
My concept was for a Museum of Cheap Shit or Museo de Mierda Barata. While working on this project, I learned how cultural references like saying Shit in Spanish is much worse than saying Shit in English. The name of the museum comes across much more aggressive in Spanish. In English it is taken a bit more lightly and more humorous.
By the end of the workshop, I created a cheap looking identity of the museum as well as a series of posters to promote the opening of the museum in Spain. I wanted to create the visual clutter that is often found in dollar stores across the globe, so I took simple cheap items and repeated them till I was sick of them.
